A Dad’s Perspective on……choosing the best quality trampoline PART 2

Best Quality Trampoline

PART 2:
A
Dad’s Perspective on……

Choosing the Best Quality Trampoline in the UAE

In Part 1 of this series, I wrote about my struggles accepting that my children wanted a trampoline to jump and play on.  Also, how I came to realise that trampoline bouncing could be such a fun, healthy past time for them. And that I should at least properly consider their request. I set about to do some research on how to find the best quality trampoline in the UAE.

I made my list of essential, best quality trampoline features that I needed from a trampoline.

My “Best Quality Trampoline” list consisted of:

  • The best trampoline for living conditions in Dubai and UAE
  • The best quality trampoline that would last and I could afford
  • The absolute safest trampoline
  • A trampoline with great bounce performance

The list boiled down to four simple elements; quality, safety, performance and ease.  I knew that if I focused on that, I would be able to find the best quality trampoline.

Here’s what I found out:

The Best Quality Trampoline for Living in the UAE.

Living in the UAE comes with its unique set of challenges. Especially when considering outside equipment like a trampoline. The summer season is hot. Actually, for those of you who have experienced a UAE summer, I’m sure you will agree that the word “hot” maybe doesn’t do the summer experience justice!

Anyhow I digress. A trampoline should be build from top quality materials. Otherwise it will degrade in the harsh sun. My friends often retold the story of how year-after-year their bargain trampoline had fallen apart. I didn’t want that to happen.

I wanted a premium trampoline, like the North Trampoline Explorer that was designed to resist the harshest of climates.  With an extra thick UV protected pad and a frame with a 3-layered anti-rust protective coating. This would give  increased stability and durability.

Ease of Building the Trampoline

I don’t know if you have had the pleasure of putting up a trampoline before. But usually it is not an easy, nor a quick task. So, when I read about the North Trampoline zero-bolt, clip-in assembly system I thought I might have found the premium quality trampoline best holy grail! North Trampolines can be put up and taken down, without even getting a screw driver out of my dad draw!

It’s not something you think about often, having to put up and take down your trampoline. However, this year alone I have had to take down and put up my trampoline quite a few times! When we repainted the house and the scaffolding had to go up. When we decided that taking our trampoline to camp with us in the desert would be fun (I’ll tell you about that another day!). And also when my children “needed” to dress up the trampoline for Halloween and I “had” move it to our front garden area for everyone to see……

I can mount my 14ft x 10ft oval North Trampoline, by myself, in approximately 40 minutes.  In the first instance, I observed the installation team when they installed the trampoline on delivery.  Then afterwards I refreshed my memory with the assembly videos available on www.jumbfitnessdubai.ae. The only tools needed to do the job is a rubber mallet and a spring-fitting tool (which comes with the trampoline).

For summer storage all I have to do is take down the safety poles, which effortlessly slot out of the pole holder. Remove the safety net, which is easily unzipped from the main body. And finally, fit the protective trampoline cover. To get our North Trampoline summer ready, it took me a total of 15 minutes!

Premium Trampoline Materials

I was looking for a premium quality trampoline. One designed for the best jumper experience. A carefully considered trampoline that met high engineering standards. A quality trampoline that would suit my growing family and last beyond one season.

The high quality, durability and robust qualities of North Trampolines impressed me.  The Swedish designed trampolines ticked the boxes in terms of best quality build standards. They provided a thick, UV treated frame pad which minimised deterioration. A heavy-duty frame with a 3 layered anti rust protection, that provides a sturdy, lasting trampoline base. Chormium 6 free springs, are better for the health and safety of anyone who bounces on the trampoline. And also provide superb rebound quality.

The Safest Trampoline

Last, but absolutely not least, I wanted the safest trampoline for my children.  Therefore, I needed a quality trampoline with  thick padding, a secure netting, no exposed springs and no possibility of being able to fall out of the trampoline. In other words, I was looking for a premium quality trampoline that minimised the risks of jumping on a trampoline.

The North Explorer has patented horizontal protection zippers to avoid any contact with springs. The netting enclosure has a safety belt that direct the jumper safely back to the jumping mat. A self-closing entry, that would not accidentally be left open when someone is jumping. And the zero-gap safety zippers ensure arms and legs don’t get trapped outside the trampoline.

A Dad’s Perspective on…..choosing the best trampoline PART 1

performance safety quality

PART 1:

A Dad’s Perspective on…

Choosing the best trampoline in the UAE

Quality. Performance. Safety. Ease.

I’ve been thinking a lot about these four words lately. My children have asked for years and years (literally) to get a trampoline. And for years and years I said NO (we were all quite persistent!). Whilst I loved the concept of them getting outside and having fun whilst moving their little bodies, I kept thinking, “too rusty, too dangerous, too hard to put up and take down”….my list of “too difficult” went on. I dismissed the idea when the reality was that what I had to do was research and find the best trampoline in the UAE.

But then daddy guilt hit me.

The children were begging me to get them a piece of equipment that would make them even more healthy and get them outside in the fresh air, doing exercise! These were things I had been telling them to do This wasn’t a video game or YouTube or Netflix they were asking for, or that I was having to drag them away from. So, the penny finally dropped and I had a quiet word with myself.  This should at least be looked at  seriously before I could make a proper decision. The pros and cons of a trampoline had to be weighed up.   I needed to consider what would make the best trampoline in the UAE and think about what I wanted my children to be doing with their free time.

I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. My research began with the simple question: “What would make the perfect trampoline?” And because I love a bit of detail, I extended the question to “what would make the best trampoline in the UAE?” because, well, that’s where we live.

I made a list of what I was looking for in this piece of garden equipment, and here’s what I came up with:

  • The best trampoline in the UAE:

I was looking for a trampoline that was the most suited to the conditions of Dubai. The harsh summers can be disastrous for anything you leave out in you garden. I wanted something you could either leave out all year. Or, alternatively, something that would be easy to take down and put back up again when the time came.

  • The best quality trampoline that would last and I could afford:

The build and quality of the trampoline was important. I did not want to buy something that would need to be replaced in a year’s time.  Not only would that end up costing a lot of money,  but it would also be very wasteful and unsustainable. I don’t like to single use items and I wasn’t about to buy a trampoline that would end up in landfill in a short amount of time. I wanted  trampoline that would last.

  • The absolute safest trampoline:

Safety is hugely important. The trampoline had to be as safe for my children as possible.  Many injuries happen on a trampoline because the jumper hits the hard part of the trampoline,  gets trapped in the exposed springs or falls off the trampoline.  I wanted to minimise the risk as much as possible. This was the same as buying a good quality car seat for safe travel in a vehicle. This had to be the best trampoline in the UAE to keep my children safe whilst doing something that could potentially be hazardous. Investing in the correct piece of equipment was critical.

  • A trampoline with great bounce performance:

As children grow they become more capable.  I did not want to invest in something that my children would outgrow before they had finished using it.  Considering the investment I wanted this  trampoline to be to fulfil their jumping needs for now and the foreseeable future.

I now had my list of what were the most important elements for choosing the best trampoline for my family. In fact, if I could find a trampoline that met this criteria, I’m sure I would end up with the best trampoline in the UAE!  The perfect present for my family.

You can read more about my perspective in the next blog but, in the meantime, if you want to read what other dads think you could try with Hari, an avid trampoline user with a family of jumpers

Get Down to the Beach

The UAE is blessed with lots of accessible, beautiful beaches .  Our favourite beach is Al Sufouh, which confusingly goes by many names.  We know it as Black Palace Beach, because it is nestled near a Royal Palace.   Other people call it Secret Beach, because the entrance to the beach can be a little tricky to find!

The beach is manned by lifeguards, but doesn’t have any facilities. The beach feels very rustic, despite being in the heart of a bustling city.  If you go to the far left of the beach the views of the Burj Al Arab are lovely – the perfect place to snap a family shot with the iconic building in the background.

Expo 2020

Expo offers free tickets for anyone under 18 or over 60. Housekeepers and nannies also get in for free (they need to take their residence visa to show proof of status). You can find exceptional ticket deals for anyone who falls outside those categories.

Once inside you can also take advantage of freebies that different pavilions are giving away. The freebies vary from pavillion to pavillion and change daily. Offerings vary from one day to the next. We enjoyed biscuits in Belgium,  luggage tags in Antigua and Barbuda and ice creams in Kuwait!

Our favourite giveaway is the  free coffee that several of the pavilions offer. We of course particularly liked the Italian coffee, but we also had fun sampling what Rwanda and Ethiopia had to offer.

There are free shows and parades on all the time. Until the end of November, the excellent Riverdance are performing a special 25th Anniversary show that is free for all Expo ticket holders.  https://www.expo2020dubai.com/

Certain ticket holders can avail free PCR tests. These are only needed if you are unvaccinated.  Day ticket holders are entitled to one complimentary PCR test. Whilst monthly ticket holders can avail up to 3 free PCR tests.

BBQ in the desert

BBQing in the sand must be one of our most loved things to do in winter in the UAE. Jump in the car, find a spot and enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding dunes. In Dubai one of the most accessible desert bbq spots is Al Qudra. At times this part of the desert can get busy, but this is because it is very accessible and you do not need a big 4×4 vehicle to find a suitable spot.
Our top tips include:

  • Keep your trainers on to avoid the risk of a scorpion sting.  This is especially important as it starts to get dark.
  • Take a torch with you if you plan to stay after dark. We also like to wrap our children in battery operated fairy lights. Perfect for not losing children!
  • Remember to take a lighter and tongs for the BBQ with you
  • Don’t forget to bring plenty of water with you
  • Do not  light a fire directly on the sand. Instead use a fire pit.
  • Take all your garbage away with you
  • Remove all fire pit remains. Coals can stay hot under the sand for a very long time and burns are a real risk.
  • Keep your eyes peeled for camels and other desert wildlife!

Get fit and active

Getting our exercise in is something we take seriously at Jump Fitness Dubai. Dubai offers a range of free fitness activities that you can take advantage of all year round. These include free trial classes at various gyms – we loved our free trial at Orange Theory. Free skate parks, like the fabulous one at DAMAC Hills. Or one of our faves; cycling.  You can cycle at one of the dedicated cycle tracks dotted around Dubai, or in a Dubai Municipal Park, or in your community.  This month things ramps up a gear with the launch of the 5th year of the Dubai Fitness Challenge 30 x 30, from the 29 October to 27 November.
