Trampoline safety net and enclosure

Trampoline safety net and enclosure

Trampolines are a great way to have fun, burn some extra calories and have some quality family time. However,  to avoid injury it is important to consider the safety features of any trampoline you purchase. One key aspect of a safer trampoline is the trampoline safety net and enclosure.

Here we look at why a good quality trampoline safety net and enclosure provides a safer jumping experience and added peace of mind for you and your family.

What is a trampoline safety net and enclosure?

A trampoline enclosure is a safety net that surrounds the trampoline and is designed to reduce possible fall-related injuries.  Metal poles, covered in a protective foam sleeve keep the net up.  The enclosure net goes around the trampoline and extends beyond the height of the person bouncing.

A superior trampoline safety net and enclosure

Some safety enclosures offer better protection than others. The best-quality trampoline enclosures offer the following features:

  • Made from quality material:
The net should be made from a high-quality, durable mesh that can withstand a large amount of applied force. The material should be soft enough so that it does not burn or scrape the user upon impact
  • Be durable:
The material should be UV resistant to stop deterioration.
  • Foam-protected supports:
The net attaches to the trampoline using upright steel supports. To provide a stable and safe net framework the steel supports should be foam-padded and anchored at the base of the trampoline.
  • Isolated from the springs:

Perhaps the most important feature is for the net to attach to the inside of the springs. This isolates the trampoline user from the dangers of landing outside the jumping mat limit. A North Trampoline safety net features a patented, zero-gap zipped enclosure to avoid any spring contact.

  • Be adequately high:

The net should be high enough that even the biggest of leaps are safe to do

  • Cannot remain open:

The best net enclosures feature a self-closing mechanism that does not allow the user to leave it open and hence avoid any opportunity to fall out of the trampoline.

  • Cannot become detached:

The safety net must securely attach to the trampoline.  The North Trampoline safety net features a patented fixation system that keeps the net in constant high tension, to significantly increase the safety of the bouncer

Trampoline enclosure: a necessary safety feature

Before you buy a trampoline, it is important to make sure it comes with an enclosure net. Whist nowadays a safety net is a common feature on a trampoline, sometimes they do not come as a standard inclusion and must be purchased separately.

A trampoline safety net is a must-have trampoline accessory it will prevent the user from falling off the trampoline and will help protect against injury.

Prevents falling off

One of the most important benefits of having a safety net on a trampoline is that they help from the bouncer falling off the trampoline. A trampoline safety net is there to catch the jumper and either move them back into the trampoline or provide them with a safe platform to fall upon. A North Trampoline safety net features a safety belt that directs the jumper back to the jump mat.

Protect against injury

A good quality safety net will prevent the jumper falling into  the trampoline springs. It will also significantly reduce the chance of hitting frame poles.  The soft, synthetic material  used to make the trampoline safety nets helps to avoid burns and bruises because it enables the jumper to slide against it.

Stop fall outs

Some trampoline enclosures use Velcro or a sewn-on zip to seal their enclosure doors. Unfortunately these can remain open when a jumpers go in and out of the trampoline. Additionally, they are at risk of not maintaining their integrity if the user lands on top of them.  The best enclosure doors, like those on a North Trampoline, are those with a self-closing mechanism. A flexible and reinforced overlap in the net allows easy entry and exit whilst also remaining closed behind the bouncer.

Tips to stay safe on your trampoline

It is important to keep in mind that trampoline safety nets cannot replace adult supervision or safe trampoline practice.

Always jump in the middle of the trampoline. Avoid bouncing with other people on the trampoline at the same time. Do not place anything below the trampoline when you are jumping.

Your trampoline enclosure net should not be purposely used as a rebounding surface, either from the inside or outside.

It is important to periodically check the netting to ensure there is no damage or holes in the net.

Trampoline weight limit and why they are important

Trampoline weight limit explained

Just before stepping onto a trampoline, have you ever wondered about its weight limit?

Jumping on a trampoline is a wonderful, fun activity. However, there are some considerations you should take before buying and using one and its weight limit is one of them!

You don’t want your trampoline to break and you certainly don’t want your children to break! Before you step onto the trampoline to join your kids or allow more than one child to jump together you need to think about the trampoline weight limit. Here we explain why its an important consideration.

This article looks at:

  • What happens if you go over the weight limit on a trampoline?
  • Why is it important to know weight limits
  • Why do we need a weight limit on a trampoline?
  • Factors affecting the weight limit

What happens if you go over the weight limit?

If you go over the weight limit on a trampoline, you could damage the trampoline’s mat and springs/bungee cords, causing the whole equipment to break. This may cause injury to anyone using the trampoline at the time of breakage. Additionally, an overloaded trampoline may be more difficult to jump on, which could also lead to falls and injuries.

Even if the trampoline doesn’t break immediately, consistently overloading the equipment may cause extensive wear and tear on the springs/bungee cords and the mat, decreasing the trampoline’s overall lifespan. You might have to keep on replacing the broken parts, which can be quite expensive.

Why is it important to know weight limits

Trampolines have a weight limit because the frame and mat can only support so much weight before they become damaged or break.

North Trampolines that we stock at Jump Fitness Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, have a recommended single-user weight of 110kg (242lbs), and they are safety tested up to 750kg (1,650lbs)

Although we always advise that there should only be one person jumping on the trampoline at any one time, we do understand that there may be times when several people get on the trampoline together.

In these situations, when there is more than one person on the trampoline, the combined weight of each person should not exceed the official recommendations. This is particularly important, in situations where more than one person bounces hard, at the same time.  Therefore, not only does knowing the maximum weight limit become important from a safety aspect, but it also helps you to make informed decisions before you buy a trampoline.

Why do we need a weight limit on a trampoline?

You might be wondering why that if we’ve got some of the most sturdy, reliable trampolines in the industry, why are we so conscious of weight limits? Let us explain why.

Safety

Safety is the top reason for a weight limit on a trampoline. Exceeding the weight limit set by the manufacturer is a major safety concern.  If the trampoline is overloaded, it could collapse, which could cause injuries.

Longevity

No one wants their trampoline to break after just a few years.  If you follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and treat your trampoline well, then it will last you longer.

Meet industry standards

When a manufacturer tests for and sets a weight limit they are abiding by industry standards.  CE and ASTM European industry standards require the manufacturer to inform buyers of the trampoline weight limit, i.e. how much weight a trampoline can hold. This is why trampoline weight limits are advised in the user manual.

In order for the trampoline warranty to remain valid, it is important for the user not to exceed the recommended user limit set by the manufacturer.

Factors affecting the weight limit

There are a number of factors that are taken into consideration when determining the weight capacity trampolines can tolerate.

The factors used to determine the average trampoline weight limit include the size and type, the materials used in its construction, and the intended use.

Size and shape

The size and shape are the main factors that will determine the weight of the jumpers. A smaller trampoline will typically have a lower weight limit than a larger one. In most cases, the bigger the trampoline, the higher the weight capacity it will have. Often, the rectangular shape is able to carry more weight, principally because springs are closer to the central bounce area. Because the springs are nearer, the stiffness doesn’t need to be as strong either.

Material

The materials used to make the trampoline can also affect the weight it can withstand. For instance, a trampoline meant for a heavier person will have more robust springs and a thicker steel frame. Even the jumping pad will have fewer stitching rows. As a rule of thumb, the better the quality of a materials the trampoline is made with the more weight it will be able to take.

Intended Use

The intended use of the trampoline can also play a role in determining its weight limit. For example, trampolines designed for recreational use typically have a lower weight limit than those designed for competitive use.

Trampolines for Teenagers and Adults – find the perfect trampoline

trampoline for teenagers and adults and older children

Should we let you into a little secret? Bouncing on a trampoline isn’t just for little kids! Trampolines are for teenagers and adults too!

Trampolines are an excellent, fun and healthy activity for all ages. However, choosing the right trampoline for you depends on a number of factors. Consider who will be using it, what it will be used for and where it will be situated.  We explored all of these details in our previous blog post “Buying a trampoline in the UAE: what should I look for?

Looking specifically for trampolines for teenagers and adults? Then read this handy guide to help you make the right choice and find the perfect trampoline.

Trampolines for Teenagers

When it comes to choosing trampolines for teenagers and adults, it really does boil down to identifying what they want to do on the trampoline. If they are happy to just enjoy bouncing with friends and family, then both a 3.6m (12ft) round or a 3.5m x 2.45m (12ft x 8ft) oval trampoline are superb options.

If the trampoline is for a teen who wants to do more advanced jumps or tricks, then they will need more space. The mat size is also something to think about if they are interested in trampoline accessories, such as a basketball hoop.

Another consideration when choosing trampolines for teenagers, is the quality of the frame and the recommended weight limit of the jumping mat. Look for a trampoline with exacting test standards and built using high quality materials.  The frame should be heavy duty for extra stability as this allows  for a more powerful bounce.  All of the North Trampolines we stock at Jump Fitness Dubai have an extra sturdy frame and been stress tested to a whopping 750kg (1650llbs) and have a recommended user weight of110kg (243llbs). The high recommended user weight means you can bounce safely in the knowledge that the trampoline will easily accommodate your growing child and teen.

We consider our larger 4.2m (14ft) oval and round trampolines to be great options for teens as they provide more space for jumps, leaps and flips. For a bit of extra room for tricks or for more advanced jumps, opt for our most popular 5m (16ft) oval or  4.7m (15ft) rectangular models.

Trampolines for tricks

All of the trampolines we stock provide sufficient bounce for vaulting and practising tricks.  However, rectangular and oval models are great trampolines for teenagers and adults. This is because these models provide even more bounce compared to the round trampolines.  The elongated surface of an oval trampoline make it a good choice for tricks and acrobatics.  A rectangular trampoline is the gold standard for tricks. Rectangular trampolines  have more springs and offer a good even bounce wherever you are on the trampoline. This makes rectangular trampolines perfect for flips and tumbling.

The two best-selling trampolines, which are loved by the tricking community worldwide, are the 4.7m (15ft) North Explorer rectangle and the 4.7m (15ft) North Performer rectangle trampolines.  The extra boost provided by the North Performer will take your tricks to the next level.

Trampolines for adults and family

By default, all of our trampolines are designed for adults and family fun. The safety features are second to none. Safety features are equally important for both adults and children. Look for a trampoline packed with as many safety features as possible.

Springs are an important consideration when choosing a trampoline for an adult.  A better quality spring means a better quality bounce. The high-quality springs on a North Trampoline are customisable, which means you can adjust them to get the ultimate bounce for your size, weight and ability. This is especially useful if you have lots of bouncers of different ages and sizes.  The feedback we get from adult jumpers is that they love how responsive the bounce is on a North Trampoline.

In our experience families with multiple children or adults who want to jump themselves, tend to choose the bigger models. More space allows for more flexibility when it comes to usage.  As a child grows, a larger model will also provide the option to progress into more advanced jumping. That combined with the customisable springs makes a North Trampoline a great choice. At Jump Fitness the most popular trampolines in the UAE for adults and families are the 5m (16ft) oval or 4.7m (15ft) rectangular models from North Trampoline.

North Trampolines for teenagers and adults

Trampolines are an excellent fun activity for children of all ages. However, if you are looking for trampolines specifically for teenagers and adults, then the Swedish designed ‘North Trampolines’ are a wise choice.

North Trampolines bring you:

  • A higher than average safety net provides extra safety.
  • ‘Adjustable Springs’ mean you can tailor the ‘bounce’ to suit you your family or skills.
  • Extra Safe Enclosed Springs System. All springs are ‘zipped’ away and cannot be accessed or fallen onto by the jumper at all.
  • Most importantly…a seriously good bounce! Many trampolines that are suited to younger kids will have a softer bounce. All North Trampolines have a really deep and high bounce. Jumpers with higher user-weights will have the time of their lives…..these are perfect trampolines for teenagers and adults!  The spring adjusters means all of the trampolines can be adjusted for younger and lighter jumpers.

If you are looking for the best trampolines for teenagers and adults, then look no further than a North Trampoline! They are the safest, sturdiest trampolines on the market with an incredible bounce!

Round vs Rectangular Trampolines: Which trampoline is best for you?

Rectangular vs round trampoline

Choosing the right shape of trampoline for the family can be a confusing process! So, to give you a helping hand, we have compared two of the most common shapes — round vs rectangular trampolines.

There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to choosing the best shape of trampoline to suit your family. All trampolines can be a wonderful family activity, provide a fun time with friends and are a brilliant way to keep fit and healthy.

Before you decide which trampoline is right for you, there are several aspects to consider. Such as how you’re planning on using the trampoline, the space you have available in your garden, your budget and, of course, safety.

Round vs Rectangular: The bounce

One of the key factors when comparing trampolines is bounce performance. This is probably going to be the feature kids care the most about – how high can you jump on the trampoline?

Bounce quality will depend in part on size.  A smaller trampoline is going to offer a much smaller bounce. If you have young children, you might want to consider a smaller model that won’t send them jumping too high.

Rectangular trampolines offer a higher bounce than round trampolines.  This is because the springs on a rectangular trampoline operate independently from each other. This means that wherever you are on the mat all of your jumps will rebound equally.   It doesn’t matter where you jump on a rectangular trampoline, you can expect your bounce to have equal height and power.

The opposite is true with a round trampoline. When you jump on a circular trampoline, all of the springs work at the same time. The centre of gravity is in the middle of a round trampoline. On a round trampoline, users must jump in the middle to gain the maximum jump performance. Jumping on the edges of a round trampoline will mean the bounce won’t be as high or powerful. When someone jumps on a round trampoline they will be pulled back towards the middle. This helps to keep the jumper away from the edge and the hard parts of the trampoline.

Round vs. Rectangular: Usage

Why are you buying a trampoline? Is it going to be used purely for fun? Or will your kids be using the trampoline for athletic reasons? These questions are important to ask before you choose a trampoline.

A rectangular trampoline can provide the perfect setting for jumpers who want to learn more tricks and push their skills to a higher level. A rectangular trampoline provides more space to complete tricks. Rectangular trampolines are great for more advanced trampolinists and families who want to explore and develop their abilities.

Round trampolines are a great choice if you plan to use them for recreational purposes. A round trampoline limits how high bounces can go and where they land. The circular shape draws jumpers back to the centre of the trampoline. This is a great, subtle safety feature for younger children and more inexperienced bouncers who simply want to experience the fun of bouncing.

Round vs. Rectangular: Location, size & weather

The space you have available will have a direct bearing on the size and shape of the trampoline you choose.  Knowing where you plan to put your trampoline is an important consideration.  Your space restrictions will play heavily into your final decision on which shape to buy. Finding a convenient space for a round trampoline can be difficult. You need sufficient space for the entire diameter of a round trampoline. This usually means you will need to place the trampoline more in the centre of your garden. A rectangular trampoline will fit more easily into a corner or in a side return of the garden and can be hidden away from view. Before making a round vs rectangular trampolines purchase, it is important to take measurements and carefully choose where you want to put your trampoline.

The weather is also a consideration when choosing the size and shape of your trampoline. If you live somewhere with harsh summers, such as the UAE, you might decide to store your trampoline to keep it out of the summer sun.  The “zero bolt” assembly of the North Trampolines we sell at Jump Fitness Dubai, means that storing your trampoline for summer will be a breeze.  However, once taken down, a rectangular trampoline could be easier to slide into storage compared to a round trampoline.

The final choice

Depending on how and who will be using your trampoline will impact which shape of trampoline you choose to buy. There are advantages and disadvantages to both round vs rectangular trampolines. On the whole, we recommend that if you are buying a trampoline for small children or inexperienced users who just want to have some fun, then choose a round trampoline. If you have older or more experienced jumpers, then the rectangular trampoline is a great choice for training, as well as fun family activities.

Learn how to do a backflip!

How to do a backflip

Learn how to do a backflip!

If you want to take your trampoline jumping fun to the next level you should learn how to do a backflip! Mastering this cool, but difficult move, will not only make you feel great but will also impress your friends!

The right trampoline

You don’t have to be a gymnast, an acrobat, or into parkour, to learn how to do a backflip. However, you must make sure you have the right equipment. A suitably big trampoline with a robust netting or enclosure will help to make sure you do not hurt yourself.  The North Explorer rectangular or oval-shaped trampolines provide the perfect setting to practice your backflip.  Learning to jump safely and with confidence in the right space is very important.

The groundwork

Before you start any kind of flipping you should make sure your basic jumps are high enough. Getting height in your jumps is the basis for performing any type of trick. Good core stability and strength in your legs will help you jump higher.

Learning how to land safely and getting the right landing position on each jump are also critical aspects of your training.  We also suggest that you master some of the simpler tricks, such as a back-drop or a back handspring, before you even consider attempting a backflip.

Learning any new move should, ideally, be done on a trampoline you are familiar with.  Not all trampolines feel the same or have the same bounce. Become familiar with your trampoline and use it for a while before you attempt your first backflip.   This will help you avoid injury.

Learning how to do a backflip needs confidence, patience and lots of practice.

Learn how to do a backflip

If you are ready and have prepared, then let’s begin.

Step 1 – The warm-up

Start by warming up. All exercise should start by properly warming up your muscles.  Warm muscles help prevent injury when doing any form of exercise, including jumping on a trampoline.  You can warm up by doing some simple stretches and simply jumping on your trampoline.

Step 2 – The positioning

Now you are ready to do a backflip.  Position yourself correctly on your trampoline. The correct position depends on the shape of your trampoline. On a rectangular or an oval trampoline, you should be at one end of the trampoline. On a round trampoline, you should be one or two steps away from the center of the trampoline.

Make sure your head is in the correct position to perform the trick. Your head should be in a neutral, forward-facing position. Do not look back diagonally or to the side; precision is key.

Step 3 – Getting the height

Start jumping with some height. Height is critical to get the momentum needed to successfully complete the trick. You need enough height to be able to flip yourself over.

Step 4 – Back-Flipping around

Once you have reached a good, controlled jump height and feel confident to execute the trick you are ready. Put your hands up and double-check your head is in the correct, neutral position.

Throw your arms up and look up to the sky. Make sure you use your arms to gain momentum and propel you up and then around. This motion will help you protect your neck and land without hurting yourself. At the same time as lifting your arms up, use the momentum to lift your hips, shoulders and body behind you in a swinging motion.  Your weight should be in your legs.

Tucking your knees into your chest, whilst keeping them apart, might be an easier option than flipping with straight legs.  You can progress onto straight legs when you are ready.

Step 5 – The backflip landing

Initially, you can land your backflip on your hands and knees. You can then progress this to land on your hands and feet. Eventually, you will be able to land just on your feet.

Make sure that you give yourself enough time to get comfortable with each part of the process.

Important Safety Tips

It is important that you always practice trampolining safely. This is especially important when you learn how to do a backflip.

  • Always have someone with you who knows how to do a backflip and guide you. Never practice tricks, particularly a backflip alone.
  • Know your limits. Don’t be too bold and overestimate your abilities when learning a new trick.
  • Learn to fall correctly to help prevent injury
  • Only practice on a suitable trampoline with excellent safety features.  The trampoline springs should be covered and inaccessible to the jumper. The trampoline should have an intact, closed netting around it to prevent falls. Adequate padding should be wrapped around any hard parts of the trampoline to prevent injury.

At Jump Fitness Dubai, we supply trampolines of all shapes and sizes in the UAE and Dubai. Our trampolines are from the brand North Trampolines. All of the trampolines have, have exceptional safety features. The innovative jumping mat provides an epic bounce with 40% more airtime than other garden trampolines. Why are rectangular trampolines more expensive?

Rectangle trampoline

Why are rectangular trampolines more expensive?

Ever wondered why rectangle trampolines tend to be priced slightly higher than the equivalent round trampoline?  Here we take a quick look at the price difference and if a rectangular trampoline is the best choice for you.

A popular trampoline choice

Rectangular trampolines are a popular choice. Often called ‘the king of trampolines’ by enthusiasts they give an even and superior bounce.  The spring placement in a rectangular tramp also gives better control over your jump height and landing.

Rectangular trampolines are designed for athletes or large families. Rectangle trampolines give an even bounce throughout the jumping mat. This gives excellent control and space to ‘travel’ across the entire jump area. Whereas round models encourage ‘on-the-spot’ bouncing.  Rectangular trampolines allow you to bounce higher than a round model. The long, rectangular shape gives you more area to do tricks. The springs on a rectangular trampoline work to give optimum height and landing control.

More rectangular trampolines are sold in North America than any other type.

The extra cost

There are several reasons rectangle trampolines are often priced slightly higher than the equivalent round versions.

When comparing the prices and shapes of different trampolines it is important to consider Classic round trampoline frames are inherently strong by design. A round-shaped trampoline distributes the stress evenly over the frame, rather than concentrating at any one point.

A rectangle frame has more joins and corners to factor in. A well-engineered rectangle trampoline often needs a combination of stronger springs and more metal to support corners and joints and to strengthen the long edges.

The edges of rectangle trampolines are much longer than the same pieces of the equivalent round trampoline.  This means storage space is required, more packaging, and more expensive shipping fees.

Are rectangular trampolines worth it?

Despite the extra cost, in our opinion, a rectangle trampoline is an excellent choice and worth the investment. Consider buying a rectangular trampoline if you have more than one child or if you have an adventurous kid who wants to build stamina and coordination beyond the limitations of a round trampoline.  Rectangle trampolines are perfect for a child who wants to master their flips and tricks.

If you are a gymnast, diver, partake in snow sport, are a G-Tramp aerialist, or parkour athlete then a rectangular trampoline is a good choice for you. North Trampolines offer two of the best rectangular trampolines on the market, the Explorer and the Performer.

Buying a Trampolines in the UAE: what should I look for?

Premium trampoline Palm Dubai

Are you thinking of buying a trampoline in the UAE?  With so many different brands, shapes and sizes on the market, it can be hard to know which one to choose.

To make the decision easier, we have put together a list of things you may want to consider when purchasing a trampoline. Keep these in mind as you shop, and you’ll be sure to find the perfect choice of trampoline in the UAE.

Who is it for & how will it be used?

Before buying a trampoline in the UAE its important to ask: “who’s it for and how will it be used?” If your answer isn’t clear, then take some time and think about who will be using this equipment. Some trampolines, like the Explorer  from North, can grow with your family, making them the perfect choice for a growing family as well as more advanced teens.

Quality & Price

Of course, the price of a trampoline will be a major deciding factor. Generally, the higher the quality of the trampoline the more expensive it is.  If you can spend more on a higher quality trampoline, you can save yourself money in the long run.  For extra durability, opt for a frame made from steel and pads that have been UV treated.    Cheaper trampolines will not last as long, particularly in the harsh summer sun like we experience in the UAE. Check you can get replacement parts with any trampoline you chose, even the most robust netting might need replacing after several years.

Some trampolines sold in the UAE have delivery and installation included in the sale price, like those supplied from Jump Fitness Dubai, whilst others do not. Check you are getting everything you need included in the price you pay.

Trampoline Bounce

The bounce is one of the most important features of a trampoline.  The bounce can come from either springs, flexible composite rods or bungee cords.

Spring-fitted trampolines have stretched canvas  attached to metal coil springs. The springs create tension which affects how high the bounce is. To put it another way, the quality of the springs on your trampoline will determine how high the bounce will be. A larger spring will allow a smoother, higher bounce, whilst a shorter spring results in a stiffer and much lower and restricted bounce.

Spring-less trampolines that use fiberglass rods or bungee cords, require a high degree of force to generate a good return bounce. This means a good, high bounce is more difficult to achieve, particularly for children.

Small children need a softer bounce, and heavier, or more experienced jumpers often want a slightly harder bounce. North Trampolines are available in the UAE and allow you to combine the two options in one trampoline with the use of spring extenders.  You can start off with the spring extenders attached, this offers a soft bounce and then remove them as the child gets older and has different needs.

Assembly

Think about how much effort you want to put into your trampoline setup. Some designs take hours to put up and might require professional assembly.  Others, like the ones from North Trampolines, can be quickly put up, thanks to the zero-bolt mechanism.

Jumping Mat

If you expect to use your trampoline a lot or you live in an area with variable or extreme weather conditions, such as the heat we experience here in the UAE,  then you might want to purchase a high-quality jumping mat.

Safety Padding

These cover the springs of the trampoline.  Completely covering the springs ensures that  fingers, toes, or hair from do not get caught and injured. It is important that this pad fits perfectly over the edges of the trampoline and padding in case someone lands on top of it.  The best quality trampolines have the padding secured in place to prevent accidental movement when the jumpers are using the trampoline.

Shape

Trampolines come in different shapes, including; oval, round, square, and rectangles. Choose the best one to suit the user and the space you have allocated in the garden.

Oval trampolines: have a larger surface area, allowing for a larger and longer jump. They redirect the jumper to the middle of the trampoline. Great for gymnasts and practicing tricks. The oval and rectangle shapes are perfect for side return spaces.

Round trampolines: A round trampoline bounces the jumper towards the middle and bounciest part of the trampoline.

Square trampolines: these allow the jumper to jump from corner to corner and provide more bounce than either the round or the oval-shaped trampolines.

Rectangle trampolines: the best by far in terms of bounce and highly recommended for athletic and acrobatic practice.

Safety

A safely built trampoline vastly reduces the potential for injuries when bouncing. We believe the following safety features are essential inclusions for any trampoline bought in the UAE:

A safety net: a robust net greatly reduces the chance of falling off and frame impact injuries. Particularly important on any lifted off the ground trampoline.
The Frame: a sturdy frame will provide stability and bounce control. The frame near the jump area should be covered in padding.
Padding: a quality padding that covers the spring, frames and any hard part of the trampoline will protect the jumper. Padding is held securely in place which allows the springs to be covered at all times.
Entry and Exit point: ensuring this is secure and not left open minimizes the risk of falls whilst jumping.

Weight limit

Consider the maximum weight limit the trampoline has been tested for. Will it support the total weight of the people who will use it?

We believe North Trampolines offer the perfect combination of superior safety, quality and performance. But don’t just believe us, come and see with your own eyes.

Enjoy a garden trampoline camping adventure!

If you like connecting with nature, love being in the fresh air and want to have some outdoor fun, then camping could be the perfect activity for you.  Sometimes though, it’s not always possible to pack and prepare for a full camping trip.  So, if you are short on time or just want an easier option, then why not set up camp in your back garden? It is super fun and can be super easy if you use your North Trampoline!

However, before you embark on this garden trampoline adventure there are a few things you should think about in advance. Without a doubt, just a little bit of planning will make sure your overnight, garden trampoline adventure is as fun as it possibly can be. And of course, avoid an aborted mission!

Here are some top tips from Jump Fitness on how to best enjoy your garden trampoline camping adventure:

Choose your night wisely

The UAE the camping season runs from around the end of October to the end of April. Outside of these dates and you might find sleeping out in your garden, without the benefit of air conditioning, a little warm! Additionally, you will also need to check the weather forecast and avoid one of the rare evenings it might rain in the UAE. No one wants a soggy bed to sleep in!

Don’t let the bugs bite

Most garden trampolines are raised off the ground and come with a surrounding net, providing the perfect barrier to creepy crawlies. Nevertheless, bug spray can be useful at preventing mosquitos from biting you. Long trousers and tops will also help if you are particularly worried.

Essential equipment for sleeping on a trampoline

Camping is easy on a garden trampoline and actually very comfortable. A pillow and a sleeping bag should be all you need for a restful night.  In addition to the sleeping essentials, a torch or flashlight will come in handy. Essential for midnight bathroom visits or maybe even a midnight feast!

A garden cookout

Just because you are not in the desert, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy the delights of eating your dinner outside. Absolutely light up your fire pit or barbeque grill if you are lucky enough to have one. Alternatively, grill your burgers inside and take them outside for a picnic.  S’mores (melted marshmallows sandwiched between two biscuits) are the perfect dessert for your garden camping adventure.

Play some garden games

A few planned after-dinner games always make camping more fun.

Here are some ideas:

Star Gazing:

Once the sun goes down, look up and see which stars, planets and constellations you can name. There are a few stargazing apps, like Skyview available on the App store and the Play store, that will help you.

Camping Sing-Along:

Singing some camping tunes is always a fun activity.

Torchlight Games:

Everyone can use their torches/flashlights to have some fun in the dark. Tag, treasure hunts and shadow puppet shows are all fun ways to keep you entertained.

A Dad’s Perspective on……choosing the best quality trampoline PART 2

Best Quality Trampoline

PART 2:
A
Dad’s Perspective on……

Choosing the Best Quality Trampoline in the UAE

In Part 1 of this series, I wrote about my struggles accepting that my children wanted a trampoline to jump and play on.  Also, how I came to realise that trampoline bouncing could be such a fun, healthy past time for them. And that I should at least properly consider their request. I set about to do some research on how to find the best quality trampoline in the UAE.

I made my list of essential, best quality trampoline features that I needed from a trampoline.

My “Best Quality Trampoline” list consisted of:

  • The best trampoline for living conditions in Dubai and UAE
  • The best quality trampoline that would last and I could afford
  • The absolute safest trampoline
  • A trampoline with great bounce performance

The list boiled down to four simple elements; quality, safety, performance and ease.  I knew that if I focused on that, I would be able to find the best quality trampoline.

Here’s what I found out:

The Best Quality Trampoline for Living in the UAE.

Living in the UAE comes with its unique set of challenges. Especially when considering outside equipment like a trampoline. The summer season is hot. Actually, for those of you who have experienced a UAE summer, I’m sure you will agree that the word “hot” maybe doesn’t do the summer experience justice!

Anyhow I digress. A trampoline should be build from top quality materials. Otherwise it will degrade in the harsh sun. My friends often retold the story of how year-after-year their bargain trampoline had fallen apart. I didn’t want that to happen.

I wanted a premium trampoline, like the North Trampoline Explorer that was designed to resist the harshest of climates.  With an extra thick UV protected pad and a frame with a 3-layered anti-rust protective coating. This would give  increased stability and durability.

Ease of Building the Trampoline

I don’t know if you have had the pleasure of putting up a trampoline before. But usually it is not an easy, nor a quick task. So, when I read about the North Trampoline zero-bolt, clip-in assembly system I thought I might have found the premium quality trampoline best holy grail! North Trampolines can be put up and taken down, without even getting a screw driver out of my dad draw!

It’s not something you think about often, having to put up and take down your trampoline. However, this year alone I have had to take down and put up my trampoline quite a few times! When we repainted the house and the scaffolding had to go up. When we decided that taking our trampoline to camp with us in the desert would be fun (I’ll tell you about that another day!). And also when my children “needed” to dress up the trampoline for Halloween and I “had” move it to our front garden area for everyone to see……

I can mount my 14ft x 10ft oval North Trampoline, by myself, in approximately 40 minutes.  In the first instance, I observed the installation team when they installed the trampoline on delivery.  Then afterwards I refreshed my memory with the assembly videos available on www.jumbfitnessdubai.ae. The only tools needed to do the job is a rubber mallet and a spring-fitting tool (which comes with the trampoline).

For summer storage all I have to do is take down the safety poles, which effortlessly slot out of the pole holder. Remove the safety net, which is easily unzipped from the main body. And finally, fit the protective trampoline cover. To get our North Trampoline summer ready, it took me a total of 15 minutes!

Premium Trampoline Materials

I was looking for a premium quality trampoline. One designed for the best jumper experience. A carefully considered trampoline that met high engineering standards. A quality trampoline that would suit my growing family and last beyond one season.

The high quality, durability and robust qualities of North Trampolines impressed me.  The Swedish designed trampolines ticked the boxes in terms of best quality build standards. They provided a thick, UV treated frame pad which minimised deterioration. A heavy-duty frame with a 3 layered anti rust protection, that provides a sturdy, lasting trampoline base. Chormium 6 free springs, are better for the health and safety of anyone who bounces on the trampoline. And also provide superb rebound quality.

The Safest Trampoline

Last, but absolutely not least, I wanted the safest trampoline for my children.  Therefore, I needed a quality trampoline with  thick padding, a secure netting, no exposed springs and no possibility of being able to fall out of the trampoline. In other words, I was looking for a premium quality trampoline that minimised the risks of jumping on a trampoline.

The North Explorer has patented horizontal protection zippers to avoid any contact with springs. The netting enclosure has a safety belt that direct the jumper safely back to the jumping mat. A self-closing entry, that would not accidentally be left open when someone is jumping. And the zero-gap safety zippers ensure arms and legs don’t get trapped outside the trampoline.

A Dad’s Perspective on…..choosing the best trampoline PART 1

performance safety quality

PART 1:

A Dad’s Perspective on…

Choosing the best trampoline in the UAE

Quality. Performance. Safety. Ease.

I’ve been thinking a lot about these four words lately. My children have asked for years and years (literally) to get a trampoline. And for years and years I said NO (we were all quite persistent!). Whilst I loved the concept of them getting outside and having fun whilst moving their little bodies, I kept thinking, “too rusty, too dangerous, too hard to put up and take down”….my list of “too difficult” went on. I dismissed the idea when the reality was that what I had to do was research and find the best trampoline in the UAE.

But then daddy guilt hit me.

The children were begging me to get them a piece of equipment that would make them even more healthy and get them outside in the fresh air, doing exercise! These were things I had been telling them to do This wasn’t a video game or YouTube or Netflix they were asking for, or that I was having to drag them away from. So, the penny finally dropped and I had a quiet word with myself.  This should at least be looked at  seriously before I could make a proper decision. The pros and cons of a trampoline had to be weighed up.   I needed to consider what would make the best trampoline in the UAE and think about what I wanted my children to be doing with their free time.

I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. My research began with the simple question: “What would make the perfect trampoline?” And because I love a bit of detail, I extended the question to “what would make the best trampoline in the UAE?” because, well, that’s where we live.

I made a list of what I was looking for in this piece of garden equipment, and here’s what I came up with:

  • The best trampoline in the UAE:

I was looking for a trampoline that was the most suited to the conditions of Dubai. The harsh summers can be disastrous for anything you leave out in you garden. I wanted something you could either leave out all year. Or, alternatively, something that would be easy to take down and put back up again when the time came.

  • The best quality trampoline that would last and I could afford:

The build and quality of the trampoline was important. I did not want to buy something that would need to be replaced in a year’s time.  Not only would that end up costing a lot of money,  but it would also be very wasteful and unsustainable. I don’t like to single use items and I wasn’t about to buy a trampoline that would end up in landfill in a short amount of time. I wanted  trampoline that would last.

  • The absolute safest trampoline:

Safety is hugely important. The trampoline had to be as safe for my children as possible.  Many injuries happen on a trampoline because the jumper hits the hard part of the trampoline,  gets trapped in the exposed springs or falls off the trampoline.  I wanted to minimise the risk as much as possible. This was the same as buying a good quality car seat for safe travel in a vehicle. This had to be the best trampoline in the UAE to keep my children safe whilst doing something that could potentially be hazardous. Investing in the correct piece of equipment was critical.

  • A trampoline with great bounce performance:

As children grow they become more capable.  I did not want to invest in something that my children would outgrow before they had finished using it.  Considering the investment I wanted this  trampoline to be to fulfil their jumping needs for now and the foreseeable future.

I now had my list of what were the most important elements for choosing the best trampoline for my family. In fact, if I could find a trampoline that met this criteria, I’m sure I would end up with the best trampoline in the UAE!  The perfect present for my family.

You can read more about my perspective in the next blog but, in the meantime, if you want to read what other dads think you could try with Hari, an avid trampoline user with a family of jumpers
