10 reasons why a trampoline makes a perfect gift

trampoline holiday gift

Looking for the perfect gift this festive season?  Check out our list of Top 10 reasons why a trampoline makes the perfect gift!

As weather is cooling down and the falling temperatures mark the start of the festive season in the UAE. The countdown is on!  But instead of spending hours and hours trawling the malls for that perfect gift, we’ve got the best solution for you and your family! Now, we might be a little bit biased here at Jump Fitness Dubai, but we believe that a trampoline makes the perfect gift that you can give and receive at Christmas.  Or, in fact, at any time!

Read on to find out why

1. Safe, Family Fun

Have you ever noticed that when parents aren’t around children can get into all kinds of trouble? It seems that children aren’t designed to be so safe at times, but you can rest assured that a North Trampoline is! The North Trampoline’s extensive safety systems minimise possible hazards and eliminate the impact areas most commonly related to trampoline injuries. You will have peace of mind. Not only will the kids will be having fun, but they will also be as safe as they can possibly be whilst bouncing on a North Trampoline.

2. Years of Fun Guaranteed

Are you getting tired of your kids receiving gifts and then forgetting about them a few weeks later? Or even worse, opening the gift and just playing with the packaging? Or even worse still, opening the gift and then never opening the packaging? A trampoline is the one gift that will for sure spark some genuine enthusiasm and will be played with for years to come. The fun, laughter and giggles that will come from your trampoline will really bring meaning to the joy of giving! Trampolines are so much fun! Trampolines encourage children to laugh, jump, bounce and play. They encourage creativity and imagination and help children to enjoy simply being children.

A North Trampoline comes with spring extenders. This means that the jumping mat can be adjusted to suit your family’s size, weight and ability. Your trampoline can grow along with your family.  A trampoline makes the perfect gift that will stay with you for years. The trampolines have been designed to last, using only the highest quality materials. You and your family can safely play outside for hours on end, wherever you are in the UAE.

3. Trampoline is a Healthy Activity

Health and fitness is important to all of us, but it is essential for children. They have growing bodies and extra energy to burn.  Trampolines are the perfect way for your family to do exercise. And because it is so much fun you might just find you actually do more than you thought you would!  Just 15 minutes of trampolining a day can improve overall posture, balance and coordination. Trampolining also increases flexibility and encourages bilateral motor skills. It also encourages gross motor skill development.

If your child is reluctant to start a physical activity or sport, trampolining is the perfect way to kick-start some movement. It is easy and fun and children don’t often realise, they are actually exercising!

4. Trampoline Burn Off Some Energy!

I’m sure you will agree, that sometimes it seems like a child’s energy will just go on and on forever? Trying to find a never-ending supply of activities to take them to, in order to burn off that energy can leave us parents exhausted! That’s why getting them a trampoline for the garden is the perfect solution! Rather than driving them around Dubai or your Emirate to another activity, get them jumping on a trampoline in the garden and they’ll be busy burning off that energy for hours!  For added fun attach a North Trampoline basketball hoop to your trampoline!

After all that bouncing, bed time will be extra easy!

5. Supports Learning

Studies show that regular physical activity supports a child’s brain development by improving memory, concentration and an overall positive outlook. Research has shown that there is a direct impact on behaviour and development of the brain with kids who exercised for 15-30 minutes before school. As a result the children were less distracted and more attentive to schoolwork.

Let kids jump on the trampoline in the morning before school. The jumping will wake up their mind and body, and get them ready for learning.

6. Fuel their Imagination

Another reason why a trampoline makes the perfect gift this Christmas or holiday season is that trampolines can be used for so many things other than just jumping. Children can let their imagination run wild and that lovely cosy, enclosed space seems to encourage them just to do that.

We have had have sleep-overs, movie nights, a hair dressing salon, water balloons…. The list goes on and on and the possibilities are endless.

7. Boost their Self Esteem and Improve Mental Health

Trampolines are a wonderful tool to help children gain self-esteem and overall positive mental health. Exercise reduces stress levels and helps improve your state of mind. This is because it releases endorphins and other positivity chemicals in the brain. That combined with the added benefits of all the fun and games you can have on a trampoline only helps promote positive mental health.

Jumping on a trampoline can also be great for building a child’s confidence. The simple task of mastering a new trick or learning a new jump can improve confidence. This confidence can, in turn, help in everyday life.

8. Perfect gift for Playdates

Do your children sometimes forget what to do when they have their friends over? Despite a room full of toys and things to keep them entertained, you probably hear cries of “we have nothing to do!”  With a trampoline you will have the perfect solution to keep them entertained for hours on end, the added bonus being they will be outside in the fresh air! Major parenting points! Plus, you will be able to, hand on heart, tell their parents they didn’t even touch an electrical device! Trampoline makes the perfect gift.

9. Trampoline are Great for the Entire Family

Kids obviously love to jump on trampolines, but adults can get in on the action too! Trampoline jumping is the perfect activity to include in your exercise routine. Bouncing can provide stress relief whilst you jump. Or you can turn being on the trampoline into an outdoor activity for the whole family. Get started and set each other challenges, like who can do the most jumps in a minute, or who can learn to do a flip first.

It’s great fun and the perfect gift for the whole family.

10. Perfect Addition to your Exercise Routine

Getting tired of hitting the gym and want to add a bit of fresh air to your fitness routine?  Just like walking, jogging and cycling, trampolining is aerobic in nature and works your cardiovascular system. Plus, it decreases your heart rate and blood pressure. Research shows that jumping on the trampoline is very similar to the energy expenditure of running. The extra bonus being it doesn’t damage to the joints like high-impact exercise does.

Plus let’s be honest, trampolining is so much fun! A Trampoline makes the perfect gift.

Get Down to the Beach

The UAE is blessed with lots of accessible, beautiful beaches .  Our favourite beach is Al Sufouh, which confusingly goes by many names.  We know it as Black Palace Beach, because it is nestled near a Royal Palace.   Other people call it Secret Beach, because the entrance to the beach can be a little tricky to find!

The beach is manned by lifeguards, but doesn’t have any facilities. The beach feels very rustic, despite being in the heart of a bustling city.  If you go to the far left of the beach the views of the Burj Al Arab are lovely – the perfect place to snap a family shot with the iconic building in the background.

Expo 2020

Expo offers free tickets for anyone under 18 or over 60. Housekeepers and nannies also get in for free (they need to take their residence visa to show proof of status). You can find exceptional ticket deals for anyone who falls outside those categories.

Once inside you can also take advantage of freebies that different pavilions are giving away. The freebies vary from pavillion to pavillion and change daily. Offerings vary from one day to the next. We enjoyed biscuits in Belgium,  luggage tags in Antigua and Barbuda and ice creams in Kuwait!

Our favourite giveaway is the  free coffee that several of the pavilions offer. We of course particularly liked the Italian coffee, but we also had fun sampling what Rwanda and Ethiopia had to offer.

There are free shows and parades on all the time. Until the end of November, the excellent Riverdance are performing a special 25th Anniversary show that is free for all Expo ticket holders.  https://www.expo2020dubai.com/

Certain ticket holders can avail free PCR tests. These are only needed if you are unvaccinated.  Day ticket holders are entitled to one complimentary PCR test. Whilst monthly ticket holders can avail up to 3 free PCR tests.

BBQ in the desert

BBQing in the sand must be one of our most loved things to do in winter in the UAE. Jump in the car, find a spot and enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding dunes. In Dubai one of the most accessible desert bbq spots is Al Qudra. At times this part of the desert can get busy, but this is because it is very accessible and you do not need a big 4×4 vehicle to find a suitable spot.
Our top tips include:

  • Keep your trainers on to avoid the risk of a scorpion sting.  This is especially important as it starts to get dark.
  • Take a torch with you if you plan to stay after dark. We also like to wrap our children in battery operated fairy lights. Perfect for not losing children!
  • Remember to take a lighter and tongs for the BBQ with you
  • Don’t forget to bring plenty of water with you
  • Do not  light a fire directly on the sand. Instead use a fire pit.
  • Take all your garbage away with you
  • Remove all fire pit remains. Coals can stay hot under the sand for a very long time and burns are a real risk.
  • Keep your eyes peeled for camels and other desert wildlife!

Get fit and active

Getting our exercise in is something we take seriously at Jump Fitness Dubai. Dubai offers a range of free fitness activities that you can take advantage of all year round. These include free trial classes at various gyms – we loved our free trial at Orange Theory. Free skate parks, like the fabulous one at DAMAC Hills. Or one of our faves; cycling.  You can cycle at one of the dedicated cycle tracks dotted around Dubai, or in a Dubai Municipal Park, or in your community.  This month things ramps up a gear with the launch of the 5th year of the Dubai Fitness Challenge 30 x 30, from the 29 October to 27 November.

Visit https://www.dubaifitnesschallenge.com/en/ for more information and inspiration on how to get moving.

3 Healthy Spooky Treats for Halloween

Halloween usually means an overload of candy here at the HQ of Jump Fitness, but we all know that we also need some healthy snacks to helpkeep that energy up, especially after a long bounce on the trampoline! Here are three of our favourite creepy snacks that we like to make during Halloween. They are all nut-free recipes, because that’s how we roll here due to our allergies.

(1) Scary Hummus and Vegetable Dip

Here in the UAE, delicious hummus is available to buy from almost all grocery stores and that will work perfectly well here. However, if like us, you want to make it at home then here is how we whip up a batch:

Here’s what you will need:

  • 1 (400g) tin of chickpeas – strain but keep liquid
  • 1 Table spoon of lemon juice
  • 1 Table spoon of olive oil
  • 1 clove of garlic crushed
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 drops of sesame oil to taste
  • Food processor

Directions:

Blend chickpeas beans, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, cumin, salt, and sesame oil in a food processor; stream reserved chickpea liquid into the mixture as it blends until desired consistency is achieved.

Serve with chopped up vegetables, we like chopped red pepper (capsicum), cucumber, carrots and snow peas. To make this seriously spooky we carve up a mini pumpkin and arrange it in the most disgusting vomiting manner.

(2) Witches Berry Platter

Watermelons are relatively easy to get hold of here in the UAE and are perfect as an easy alternative to carving a pumpkin. The added bonus? They make a super delicious and nutritious snack (full of vitamin A, C and B6). Just remember that it’s still hot outside in October and so a watermelon or any fruit will not last long outside the fridge – so no leaving this one on your doorstep!

Here’s what you will need:

  • 1 x watermelon (oval or round and ideally seedless, but one with seeds will also work)
  • 2 x Cucumber slices and blackberries (for the eyes – other fruit or candy works well here)
  • A selection of other berries to serve (we used strawberries, blackberries and blueberries)
  • Cutting board
  • Kitchen knife
  • Small bowl
  • Dry erase marker
  • Paring knife
  • Melon baller, fluted or regular
  • Pins or toothpicks/skewers
  • Battery-operated candle or light (optional)

TIP: How to choose a good watermelon for carving:
Look for a round or oval shaped watermelon that is free from bruises, cuts or dents.
The watermelon should be heavy for its size. On average, a 2kg watermelon yields approximately 11 cups of edible fruit.
The underside of the watermelon should have a creamy yellow spot from where it sat on the ground and ripened in the sun.

TIP: How to carve a watermelon:
Cuts are easiest when the watermelon is at room temperature. Once your work is complete, pop the carving and contents back in the fridge to chill before serving.
A sharp knife with a pointed tip makes the easiest, cleanest cuts.
Remove excess flesh in large pieces, when possible, to allow for easier melon ball or cube creation.

Directions:

Wash watermelon under cool running water and pat dry.

On cutting board, place watermelon on its side and use kitchen knife to cut off 1/2cm or 1cm from bottom (end opposite stem), being careful not to cut too deep into white part of rind. This creates a flat bottom for your design to sit on.
Cut 1 or 2cm from stem end to create large opening at the top, enough to fit your hand in to get the melon out

Using dry erase marker, draw zig-zag lines to create a mouth. Use paring knife to cut out the design, being sure to cut through to red fruit.

Use a melon baller to hollow out inside of watermelon. Use scoop to remove excess watermelon. If you don’t have a baller or scoop then a knife does this job too, its just a bit more tricky.

Using the cucumber slices and blackberries create eyes and fix them to the watermelon with the skewer, toothpick or pins.

Arrange the melon and berries on a platter with the carved watermelon in the middle.

Put battery-operated candle or light into the carving to create an extra spooky glow.

(3) Frozen Ghost Pops

These ghostly treats work well as a dessert or as a healthy snack. Just remember to take out of the freezer just before serving so they do not melt before your guests get to enjoy.

Here’s what you will need:

  • 2 bananas
  • Greek yogurt (any thick yogurt will do the job here)
  • Box of raisins or chocolate chips
  • Popsicle sticks or skewers
  • Parchment paper and baking tray

Directions:

Cut bananas in half and insert Popsicle stick or skewer halfway through each piece.

Dip bananas in yogurt and place on parchment paper, on a baking tray.

Push raisins or chocolate chips onto banana in a face pattern.  We like to do this before the bananas go into the freezer, but it can be done afterwards as well.

Place in freezer until frozen.

Once frozen, enjoy as a dessert or as a healthy, spooky snack.

GTRAMP, a sport born on Instagram, but what exactly is it?

GTramp is a relatively new sport that has exploded in popularity in the past few years.  GTramp stands for “Garden Trampoline,” but this isn’t your usual run-of-the-mill trampoline jumping, this sport involves epic, jaw-dropping acrobatics and gravity-defying moves. It’s fun to watch and even more fun to do.

The sport has gone from strength to strength, the popularity having been fuelled by social media, where the hashtag #gtramp now has more than 219k posts on Instagram and participants freely share their moves, whilst supporting and encouraging each other.   The movement started to gain traction in 2016 and is currently being led by tween and teenage boys around the world — but with more and more girls starting to join in.

The athletes are called GTrampers or Flippers and what they do is not to be confused with the Olympic sport of trampolining.   GTramp is freestyle, where acrobatics and daring trump pointed toes and perfect landings.  Slightly rebellious in nature, it’s a combination of the daring of parkour, the energy of freestyle snowboarding and the street cool of skateboarding.  As with any sport there is a lingo that accompanies it and the flippers show off their kabooms, with their codies and their ball-outs.

Whilst uniqueness and playing to your own strengths, seems one of the keys to GTramping success, the trampolinists have established a kind of hierarchy for the hardest way to do a trick – a double bounce, when one flipper utilizes the force of his or her bounce to send another flipper higher, is the easiest, with a tower bounce, the one bounce and standing following in order of difficulty. Quintuple (5) flips, which not long ago were rarer than hen’s teeth in the world of garden trampolining, are now becoming more commonplace in recent years, as the athletes push the limits within the sport.

Whilst GTramp is a sport mostly practised individually or with friends in back gardens, there are opportunities for the athletes to take part in organised events.   As the sport matures, the more organised the events are becoming, though on the whole the atmosphere is still one of a supportive community and less about traditional competition-based sporting concepts. The GTGames, run by the Freestyle Trampoline Association, take place every year in America, New Zealand and Europe and provides a perfect opportunity for likeminded flippers to get together and see who can perform the best moves and compete to be the best GTramp athlete.

North Trampolines, are the perfect piece of equipment to practise your GTramp moves on, whether you are a beginner or seasoned professional.  With their Swedish made springs and exceptional safety features, these trampolines offer you a world-class bounce experience that can take your jumping to the next level.

Dress up your Trampoline this spooky season!

Its spooky season and if you love Halloween as much as we do here at Jump Fitness Dubai, then it’s the season to start getting your spook on! Many people decorate their front gardens to welcome the stream of trick or treaters on the 31st October, but this year why not take your decorations to the next level and dress up your back garden, including your trampoline?

We created this scary Spiders Lair look for our North Trampoline and below we have provided the instructions on how you can recreate the look this Halloween:

The Trampoline Spider’s Lair Instructions

What you need:

  • Large pack of stretchable spider web: we bought ours from Daiso and Kibsons
  • 1 package white & black pipe cleaners (we used both 15cm and 30cm): we bought ours from Daiso
  • Scissors
  • Giant spiders in two sizes: we bought our little ones from Kibsons and the big ones from Daiso

How to decorate your trampoline:

  1. Start by stretching the spider web between each of the trampoline sections. Make sure you spread the spider web out to ensure it looks authentic – just like a spider would spin its web!
  2. To make sure the web stays in place we used two methods:
    1. hook it onto the top and bottom of the poles
    2. thread your pipe cleaners through the net enclosure or around the length of the poles to create a hook to link the web to (make sure the pipe cleaner ends are hooked under, so no sharp edges are exposed)
  3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 until the whole of the trampoline exterior is covered in spider web
  4. Now its time to attach your spiders. For the big spiders we used the elastic loop that came with the spider to attach it to the pole, by wrapping it around the pole and back over the body. We attached the smaller spiders onto the trampoline using pipe cleaners around the body and legs and attaching them to the poles
  5. Your trampoline will look spooky at night but if you want to go for a scarier look at night then place a lamp in the centre of the trampoline so your spider’s lair will glow!

If you dress up your trampoline, tag us at jumpfitnessdubai so we can see your creations!

What trampoline should I choose?

tRAMPOLINE

Like any good piece of performance gear, trampolines should be evaluated by the needs of the performer.  Before you make any purchase, you need to ask yourself several questions to assess which piece of equipment best suits your needs.

Here are the questions we think you should ask before buying a trampoline:

  • Who’s it for?

Choosing the right trampoline means getting the right fit for the person or people who are going to use it most. Jump Fitness Dubai stocks a range of North Trampolines so that everyone can find a model to suit their needs.

All North Trampoline springs are fully customisable to ensure you get ultimate bounce for your size, weight and ability. This allows you to grow with your trampoline as you adjust the springs to your needs.

  • How’s the quality and the bounce?

Trampolines have many benefits, but without a strong, lasting bounce you won’t get the enjoyment you want.  A trampoline should last a long time even in the harsh climate of the UAE.
Here are some of the considerations you should take before buying a trampoline:

  • Will it last? A trampoline that lasts for one season will disappoint and ultimately be a waste of money and is not environmentally friendly. North Trampolines are built to last, using high-quality products and components, with the ultimate aim to reduce wear and tear and contribute to a more sustainable future.
  • How is the trampoline built? No other trampoline comes close to the build quality of a North Trampoline. Designed in Sweden to resist the harshest of climates, these trampolines have been built to last and come with generous warranties
  • The highest performance of all: North Trampolines offer a world-class bounce experience that takes your jumping to the next level, whether you are a beginner or a more advanced bouncer.
  • Are the springs good quality: not all trampoline springs are created equal, North Trampoline springs are high quality that offer outstanding performance?
  • Will it look good in your garden? We love the sleek black look of the North Trampolines.
  • Is it safe?

Safety is extremely important to us here at Jump Fitness.  A safely built trampoline vastly reduces the potential for injuries when bouncing.

So what makes a North Trampoline extra safe?

The safety net also referred to as a trampoline safety enclosure is a trampoline accessory that greatly reduces the chance of fall off and frame impact injuries. Unless you are an extremely experienced bouncer a good quality net an essential part of your trampoline.   The North Trampoline safety net is a patented (pend.) high-tension net with a unique patented fixation system and a safety belt that directs the jumper safely back onto the jump mat and away from dangers. As an extra bonus safety feature all North Trampolines feature zero-gap safety zippers that completely attach the net to the trampoline pad which avoids arms and legs getting outside the net.

Frame; all North Trampolines frames are anti-rust coated and have extra heavy-duty frames that increase stability and bounce control.

Frame pad; North Trampolines have a 30mm thick frame pad to protect bouncers from the springs. They are UV protected which helps protect deterioration from the UAE sun.  Spring protection zippers attach the safety mat to the springs meaning and extra level of safety is provided because it ensures zero contact with the springs.

Entry and Exit: North Trampolines have a self-closing entry which means the net is always closed. No more accidentally leaving the enclosure open which vastly reduces the chances of falling off the trampoline.

  • How easy is it to set up?

If you have ever had to set up a trampoline you will know that it can be a long job. Jump Fitness Dubai offers full assembly on new purchases, but in the future, you might find yourself having to take the trampoline down and re-assemble it, whether its because you move house or because you want to protect your trampoline from the scorching summer heat. The great news is that North Trampolines offers a super-fast “zero-bolt” assembly, that requires no tools. Your trampoline will be set up or taken down in record time!

  • Will it last?

Trampolines should be thought of like any good piece of athletic equipment. Treat it well and It’ll return the long-term value you desire. Here’s how to evaluate if it can last.

Are warranties offered? North Trampolines offer exceptional warranties, from two to ten years, depending on the part. More information on the warranties for each product can be found on the website.

While there is no guarantee on how long a product lasts, as every trampoline is used in its own way, but North Trampolines have the Scandinavian heritage of safety, quality, innovation and design which resulted in customers happily bouncing on trampolines they have had for years.

  • What size and shape do I need?

Finding the suitable size trampoline for your needs now and beyond takes some planning. Whilst the good news is that North Trampolines have customisable springs that allow for the trampoline to grow with the jumper, the truth is that if you buy too small you might be left wanting more quickly. On the flip side (yes that’s a trampoline joke!), buy too big and the trampoline will become the main feature of your back garden.

The Main Questions to ask yourself are:

What type of jumps you will be doing?:  the bigger the ambition, the bigger the area you need for jumps. Starting out most families with younger children should consider a simple round option, whereas more advanced flippers might want to progress to an oval or rectangular option immediately.

Where are you planning to put the trampoline? Often people who live in UAE move house often, buying a trampoline that will move with you is important, that’s why we love the North Explorer Oval and Rectangular trampolines.   Its shape means it fits in the narrowest of gardens and can be slotted into a side return.  Whereas a round trampoline can look great in the corner of your garden.

Children grow up fast. In the blink of an eye their needs will change and they will be trying gravity-defying jumps (that might just make your heart stop!).  Therefore, we recommend you think about getting a size your family enjoy now but also can grow into.

We hope we have helped you get closer to deciding what trampoline best suits your family. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to Whatsapp us or call us on +971 (0) 585918776 or email us at [email protected].
